Dive mission at Offshore Test Site reveals: underwater structures can boost biodiversity
Artificial structures off the coast of Scheveningen can contribute to an increase in biodiversity. This was confirmed by a recent dive mission at the Offshore Test Site where The Rich North Sea rents a plot, located 12 kilometers off the coast of Scheveningen. In 2021, four underwater structures were installed here at a depth of 20 meters to monitor the development of species richness around them.

Successful pilot with autonomous underwater vehicle in Gemini Windpark
Together with The Rich North Sea, Lobster Robotics successfully completed a pilot project in Gemini Windpark. The objective was to test innovative new monitoring methods for nature enhancement solutions. The pilot shows that vessel costs can be decreased by using an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV).

Orange pistol shrimp new to the Netherlands
The Netherlands has gained a new species of shrimp. The species recently discovered during a biodiversity monitoring survey in the North Sea has never before been found in Dutch waters. The orange pistol shrimp (Alpheus macrocheles) was found in a scraping sample from an oyster table in wind farm Borssele. Here, De Rijke Noordzee is working with wind farm owner Blauwwind to develop flat oyster reefs.
